Trans Excellence Reigns On The Gold Coast
Mermaid Beach, QLD – Over the weekend, the Gold Coast transgender community came together on the longest night of the year to celebrate fellowship and inclusivity.
Powered by Hairy Mary’s and a Goldy’s collaboration, DJ Beksis was on the decks, and trans icon Tall Jan opened the night with a high-energy, quintessential drag banger.
The show also featured the Gold Coast’s newest expat, Bebe Amadeus, a Scottish pop star, as well as Alexis Diamond — a fierce entertainer who parachuted in from Ipswich to entertain the Mermaid Beach–based audience.
Hairy Mary’s remains the only gay-owned and -operated gay bar on the Gold Coast, acting as community hub. Tucked safely back from Surfers Avenue in Mermaid, the bar offers a safe escape to let your hair down, loosen your binders, and get away from the vitriol we see in the media and global politics aimed at the queer and trans community.
“It’s important to have a space for everyone,” Hairy Mary’s owner Steven Fahd says, “no matter where you are on your journey coming out or transitioning.”
Hairy Mary’s, over the weekend, catered events for all gender identities, with both women’s and men’s social parties, in addition to Trans Central, ensuring everyone has a place to party safely this Pride month.
“Its so beautiful to see Trans performers being showcased, and the amount of people who come to show their support!” Alexa Katherine said.
