WUNDERBAR: A Night of Queer Euphoria

By Dustin Lowrey (@cadydeville)

GOLD COAST, QLD — On Friday night, the Gold Coast’s Home of the Arts (HOTA) came alive with WUNDERBAR, a vibrant celebration of queer euphoria featuring both local talent and nationally acclaimed performers such as The Huxleys and headliner Nat Bass.

Presented by Goldy’s (@goldys_gc) and supported by Experienced Gold Coast, the event blended innovation with artistic flair, transforming the HOTA amphitheatre into a glowing, glamorous playground of performance and Pride.

Under a canopy of stars, a runway-style catwalk extended from the forecourt stage, setting the scene for a night of non-stop entertainment. CLOUD PLAY, a kinetic poetry installation by Patrick Shearn added a stunning visual centrepiece, further elevating HOTA’s already iconic architecture.

From the moment guests arrived, they were welcomed by friendly logistics staff and sequin-clad drag queens who set the tone for a night of high energy and inclusivity. The evening launched with drag calisthenics led by none other than Gogo Bumhole, warming up the crowd with sass and sweat.

Between main acts, performance artists captivated audiences from a satellite stage positioned opposite the catwalk, ensuring there was no pause in the action throughout the evening.

More than just a show, WUNDERBAR was a statement—a joyful, unapologetic embrace of queer euphoria. As the glitter settled, one question must be asked:

Could this be what the future of Gold Coast Pride looks like?

If so, the future looks bright, bold, and beautifully queer.
